It’s that irrational feeling that keeps you awake, makes you nauseous and makes you avoid doing most things out of your comfort zone. Even in your adult life. And that fear is also a lie.

Fear is a powerful emotion that profoundly influences our thoughts, behaviors, and decisions. While fear can serve as a protector and can keep us safe by warning us of potential danger, it can also be incredibly deceptive. Fear often lies to us. It distorts our perception of reality and sabotages our self-esteem. This article explores how fear deceives us, the impact it has on our self-worth, and sprinkles in some strategies to overcome these lies to lead a more confident and fulfilling life.

It’s probably safe to say that nearly all of us have seen a horror movie. As we watch, our logical mind knows that the events on screen are not real, but our subconscious mind responds with fear as if they were. This is similar to how fear operates in our daily lives. Our logical mind may understand that certain fears are exaggerated or unproven, but our subconscious mind responds with anxiety and a sense of uneasiness.

And just like how we remind ourselves that scary movies are’makebelieve’, we can teach our minds to notice when fear is twisting the truth. By questioning the story fear tells us and turning our attention to facts and reason, we can start to lessen its grip on our thoughts and decisions.
